These classes are suitable for dancers who are new to Freestyle as well as those who have studied it before. At Inspire School of Dance, we follow the IDTA syllabus for Freestyle dance and as such work towards medallist examinations. Throughout the year we also offer our dancers the opportunity to enter medallist competitions as well as providing them with many chances to perform publicly. Freestyle dance covers a broad range of individual genres, most notably Freestyle/Disco, Street Dance and Slow Freestyle. Our classes expose dancers to each of these contrasting styles to give them the widest possible experience base.
Freestyle/Disco
This style involves runs, spins, kicks and leaps, as well as many other diverse steps and movements with lots of different arm and hand actions to fast music.
Street Dance
Street Dance is the most recent addition to Freestyle Dance and is an ever-evolving dance style, reacting to trends in music. It is a generic term used to describe dance styles that evolved outside of dance studios in everyday spaces such as streets, school yards and night clubs.
Slow Freestyle
Slow Freestyle is an expressive, almost lyrical, style of dance which allows the dancer to extend lines and demonstrate a greater range of dynamics than in Freestyle Dance, while interpreting the music. Dances can be choreographed in a wide range of time signatures. It is not simply Freestyle/Disco dances performed to slow music!
